POTD: Awaiting The Rain

POTD: Awaiting The Rain
July 14, 2016 Brian Truono
These dry basins, known as ephemeral pools, found throughout Canyonlands National Park wait patiently for the spring monsoons to refill their mini eco systems. They may look desolate and depleted but they are full of life. In the short span of time after they fill with water, tiny creatures from mites to snails, tadpoles and even a type of desert fairy shrimp go through an entire life cycle. Just long enough to reproduce and create eggs for the next dry spell. View Print Options
